Kremerata Baltica
One of the most world-renowned present-day violinists, an icon of solo and chamber music alike, an enthusiast and inspired performer of contemporary music, who has probably done more than any other for contemporary violin art, a man with an astonishing career in music. The Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer comes to Bratislava with his orchestra Kremerata Baltica and with a programme that will undoubtedly be an extraordinary musical delight. The first half of the concert will feature Haydn’s Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Orchestra, whose simplicity and relaxed sonority is followed by Ligeti’s String Quartet No. 1 subtitled Métamorphoses nocturnes (arranged for string orchestra), a work written in 1954, full of earthy sonorousness and drama. The second half of the concert will present a series of compositions by a variety of artists (Raminta Serksnyte, Georgijs Osokins, Victor Kissine, Alexander Raskatov and Leonid Desyatnikov) with the title Eine (andere) Winterreise (A(nother) Winter Journey), which were produced on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the foundation of Kremerata Baltica (est. 1997) on commission from Gidon Kremer. The creation of the work was inspired by the eponymous Schubert song cycle, and the ensuing opus is an interesting mosaic of shorter pieces built on the contrast of new sonority and the inventiveness of an “other” Winter Journey, and interspersed with fragments of Schubert’s Five Minuets and Six Trios D.89 arranged for string orchestra.
We reserve the right to change the programme and performers.
