Júlia Kozáková: Flor nueva

Júlia Kozáková is a singer and songwriter with a distinctive voice and an incredibly broad artistic range. Although she does not come from a Roma background, she fell in love with Roma music at a young age, shaping her artistic journey, which was further influenced by her studies of jazz and flamenco in London, Seville, and Brno, as well as her involvement in several choirs and bands (Čhavorenge, Manuša, SOLE, O Gadže Bašaven) and collaborations with various musicians across genres. In 2022, she released her debut album Manuša, which won the Radio_Head Award for “Best Slovak World Music Album” and was also nominated for the Best New Talent Award by the European platform UpBeat. At the Viva Musica! festival, she will present her new original project Flor nueva. “Preparing an original concert for the Viva Musica! festival is a great honour, a challenge, and an adventure for me. I am very happy to be able to share with the public what I have been creating over the past three years. Most of the pieces that will be performed have not been released anywhere, and it can be said that this is my most personal repertoire to date, featuring an entirely new lineup with a band and a string quartet. With this concert, I would like to celebrate beauty and friendship. Times are uncertain, and I feel that the only support outside of ourselves can be found in human connection, gentleness, and caring for our immediate daily relationships and friendships,” Júlia said. For this new project, she has invited several distinguished musical guests from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Greece. The project’s arrangements are co-created by Andrea Kružliaková, Haimoni Balgavá, Martin ‘Majlo’ Štefánik, Jureš Líška, and Viliam Didiáš.
