Nina Kohout: Little Butterfly
The singer, composer and producer Nina Kohout is one of the revelations on the current Slovak music scene. A graduate from London’s prestigious The BRIT School, where Adele and Amy Winehouse both studied, in 2020 she was conferred with the title of Discovery of the Year at the Radio_Head Awards. Early in 2022 she issued her debut EP Pandemonium, which met with excellent responses not only at home but abroad, including on BBC Radio. Her music combines mystic shades of old Slovak folklore with classical and electronic music, thereby creating her own, timeless, sometimes uncomfortably strange, and anarchic musical world, pushing out the boundaries of “musical conformity”. On her forthcoming concert at Viva Musica!, Nina says: “For over a year I will be on stage surrounded by strings, and together we will create the kind of musical world that I had a vision of when I was composing my pieces. Besides my debut EP Pandemonium, we will also play tracks from my album in preparation, for the first time ever in this line-up.”
