Iva Bittová / spev & husle
Anil Eraslan / violončelo
Iva Bittová je umelkyňa, ktorej talent, aura a charizma presahujú akýkoľvek konvenčný opis. Neznesú bežné umelecké škatuľky a uchvátia vždy nanovo svojou autentickosťou. Už desiatky rokov vo svojej tvorbe – zakaždým úplne netradične a neopakovateľne, ale vždy umelecky presvedčivo – ukazuje, s akou ľahkosťou sa dotýka hraníc mnohých hudobných žánrov ako jazz, folklór či klasická hudba. A hoci je jej spôsob tvorby a interpretácie takmer neuchopiteľný, to, čo do neho Iva Bittová vnáša, je vždy bytostne ľudské, zrozumiteľné a pravdivé. Na festivale Viva Musica! Iva Bittová účinkovala dvakrát – prvýkrát v kantáte Vladimíra Godára Mater so súborom pre starú hudbu Solamente naturali (2012, Stará tržnica) a o päť rokov neskôr so sláčikovým kvartetom Mucha Quartet, s ktorým uviedla Slovenské spevy (2017, Veľký evanjelický kostol). Tentokrát sa predstaví s violončelistom, skladateľom a improvizátorom Anilom Eraslanom, s ktorým predstaví svoj nový hudobný projekt Čo mi otec spieval (What my father sang to me) nesúci jej jedinečný umelecký rukopis a zároveň pripomínajúci minulosť, zabudnuté svety našich rodičov a starých rodičov či vplyvy národnostne bohatého kultúrneho prostredia Strednej Európy.

Spolupracuje s osobnosťami experimentálnej hudobnej scény ako Joel Grip, Axel Dörner, Tobias Delius, Fred Frith, Iva Bittová, Tristan Honsinger, Antonio Borghini, Marcello Busato, Antonis Anissegos a mnohými ďalšími. Ako filmár momentálne pracuje na svojom prvom celovečernom dokumentárnom filme o hudobnej scéne v Istanbule s dôrazom na oblasť voľnej improvizácie.
Musical Gardens #5
Iva Bittová / vocals & violin
Anil Eraslan / cello
Iva Bittová is an artist whose talent, aura and charisma surpass any conventional description, scorn to be squeezed into boxes made to fit art, and are always once again astonishing in their authenticity. On each occasion she is untraditional and inimitable, but always artistically convincing. For ten years she has moved with a light and graceful touch at the boundaries of several musical genres including jazz, folk and classical music. And although her mode of creative work and performance is almost impossible to grasp conceptually, whatever she brings to it is always essentially human, comprehensible, and truthful. At Viva Musica! festival Iva Bittová has performed twice: on the first occasion in Vladimír Godár’s cantata Mater with the early music ensemble Solamente naturali (2012, Old Market Hall), and five years later partnering the string formation Mucha Quartet, with whom she performed Slovak Songs (2017, Large Lutheran Church). On this occasion she will appear together with the cellist, composer, and improviser Anil Eraslan to perform her new musical project What my father sang to me. This work bears her unique musical style and at the same time recalls the past, the forgotten worlds of our parents and grandparents and the influence of the Central European cultural milieu, with its rich mix of nationalities. Our path to understanding these worlds may be one of the simplest musical means: the folk song and its almost infinite potential for performance. As Iva Bittová herself says of the folk melodies: “Those melodies remind us to keep in touch with our childhood, parents, traditions, passions and emotions; they teach us how to find encouragement and consolation in dark times of our lives and how to transform every tiny tremor of inspiration into art.”

___
Iva Bittová was born in Bruntál, northern Moravia, in what was then Czechoslovakia – and nowadays the Czech Republic. Both of her parents were musicians. Her mother Ľudmila was a pre-school teacher who spent most of her life with her family. Her father Koloman Bitto was a musician strongly influenced by the land of his birth, southern Slovakia. His main instruments were string bass, cimbalom, guitar, and trumpet. This exceptional ability to play almost any instrument he laid his hands on, whether performing in classical or folk music styles, proved major influence on his three daughters as they were growing up. Both of Iva’s sisters are professional drama and music performers. Iva went to the drama pre-school, specializing in violin and ballet. Subsequently, she was admitted to the Music Conservatory in Brno. She graduated in drama and music. During her studies Bittová took part-time engagements as an actress and musician in Brno’s Divadlo Husa na provázku (Goose on a String Theatre). She cites these engagements as some of the most formative and influential period of her life. Around this time, she has also featured as an actress in radio, TV, and movie productions. Later, while working full time in theatre she re-kindled her interest in playing violin; an instrument she had set aside in her younger years. After her father’s early death, she decided to follow in his professional footsteps as an instrumentalist and by composing her own music.
Cellist, composer, and improviser Anil Eraslan is working in various musical projects in between Berlin, Paris, Strasbourg, and Istanbul. From Anatolian traditional music to experimental / noise / free music, he multiplies his experiences with many ensembles and creative musicians from all over the world. He collaborates with the figures of the experimental music scene such as Joel Grip, Axel Dörner, Tobias Delius, Fred Frith, Iva Bittová, Tristan Honsinger, Antonio Borghini, Marcello Busato, Antonis Anissegos and many others. As a filmmaker, he's currently working on his first feature documentary film about the free improvisation scene in Istanbul.
