Manor House in Čunovo (Eco Centre) – Garden
Stories Quartet
Stories Quartet is a young, ambitious grouping of musicians who are linked by a passion for chamber music, and who together explore its diversity and the hidden stories it holds. Stories Quartet, founded in 2021, has as its members Karolína Krigovská (1st violin), Alžbeta Godovičová (2nd violin), Patrik Klačanský (viola) and Aleksei Kardash (cello). All four are also engaged in orchestral playing and are either members or regular collaborators of Slovak Philharmonic, Slovak Chamber Orchestra, or Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra. Their ensemble has been influenced artistically by Ján Slávik and Jozef Horváth (Moyzes Quartet), František Souček (Zemlinsky Quartet) and Augustin Hadelich, teachers and artists under whose guidance the quartet has completed master courses. The programme which Stories Quartet will present in concert, in the garden of the newly reconstructed Manor house in Čunovo (Ecocenter), contains works by two of the giants of 19th century music, Antonín Dvořák and Edvard Hagerup Grieg. Dvořák and Grieg represent two distinct worlds of art, sources of inspiration and contexts. In Dvořák’s American Quartet one can feel the powerful influence of the American setting and the Black Spirituals, which inspired his composition while he worked at the Conservatory in New York. Again, Grieg’s music will bring us in contact with the pure sonorousness of the northern tradition, with its surprisingly innovative method of working with the very essence of the sound of the string quartet, which would prefigure the new forms of music of the early 20th century.
