The Eugen Suchoň Masterclass Series
6 – 12 July 2025, Eugen Suchoň Elementary Art School, Pezinok
The concert program of the Viva Musica! festival will be enriched by a new addition in the form of international masterclasses, taking place from July 6 to July 12, 2025, in Pezinok. These masterclasses will be dedicated to the renowned Slovak composer and educator, Pezinok native Eugen Suchoň.
The courses will focus on opera, non-operatic styles (musical theatre, chanson, rock, pop), and jazz singing, led by four exceptional Slovak vocalists and educators – Jana Kurucová (opera singing), Adriana Kučerová (opera singing), Eva Banči (non-opera singing – musical theatre, chanson, rock, pop), and Kristína Mihaľová (jazz singing and improvisation). The masterclasses will culminate in final concerts by the active participants, scheduled for July 11 and 12, 2025, in Pezinok.

Focus: Singing / opera, non-opera, and jazz singing
Conditions for Active Participation
– Age 15 to 30 years
– Submission of repertoire for the masterclass*
– Submission of a reference recording in the form of a video sample (online link)
– Submission of a short profile of the applicant
– Payment of the participation fee
* Applicants for active participation in the opera singing category must include at least one piece by Eugen Suchoň in their repertoire.

By agreement with the active participants and lecturers, the masterclasses will also be open to the public in the form of passive participation.
Lecturers
Jana Kurucová (mezzosoprano)

A soloist of the Hamburg State Opera, a mezzo-soprano with a broad repertoire and an extensive international career, recognized as one of the most prominent Slovak personalities on the global opera scene.
Adriana Kučerová (soprano)

She has earned international acclaim and audience favour thanks to her expressive artistry, luminous voice, and natural charisma. She has performed on world-renowned stages and collaborated with leading conductors and orchestras.
Kristína Mihaľová
jazz singing
A singer with a distinctive voice and one of the most prominent figures on the Slovak music scene. With her original project Lash&Grey, she has performed on prestigious world stages, including Carnegie Hall in New York.
Eva Banči
non-opera singing (musical theatre, chanson, rock, pop)
One of the most respected and sought-after vocal teachers and coaches with long-standing experience, also known for her collaborations with theaters in Bratislava and Nitra.
The deadline for applications for active participation is May 30, 2025 (inclusive). Selected participants will be notified by phone or email no later than June 6, 2025.

What if I don’t have enough experience or don’t feel good enough?
Don’t worry about signing up! The masterclasses are open to anyone who wants to improve their singing – regardless of current level. Our lecturers work individually with each participant, and together you’ll set the pace and plan that suits you.
What if I’m not available on one of the days?
That’s absolutely fine. We can adjust the schedule as needed and make individual arrangements with the lecturers.
Will the lessons take place in front of an audience?
No, passive audience participation is only possible with your consent and prior agreement.
If I register with one lecturer, can I also try a lesson with someone else?
Yes, that’s possible! We can adapt the schedule based on your preferences and the availability of the lecturers.
What if I don’t manage to send the recording by the deadline?
If you can’t prepare the recording in time, go ahead and submit your application anyway. We’ll get in touch later and ask you to send the recording when you’re ready.
I’m over 30 years old – can I still apply?
The masterclasses are primarily intended for participants aged 15–30. However, if you send us your application and we have a spot available, we’ll be happy to consider your participation.
What can I expect besides the lessons themselves?
In addition to the lessons, you can look forward to a varied accompanying program in a beautiful setting, organized by our team 🙂
